I use AI to summarize, plan, critique, and verify; however the guardrails I have given the AI are never to write for me. Even when critiquing or suggesting, the AI is instructed to never offer me a paragraph or a sentence correction, lest I be tempted to pass it off as my own.
There are many justifiable ethical reasons not to use AI, and I applaud people who do. However, as someone whose work explores our relationship to technology (good and bad) and wants to portray the effects of technology (good and bad) on ourselves, I would find challenging not to experience it and gather opinions — in the same way I use the internet, open source and commercial software, and computers themselves. I know William Gibson wrote Neuromancer on a manual typewriter, but I don’t have that vivid of an imagination.
The ethics of AI consumption aside, my promise to you, reader, is that these are my words. Make of them what you will.
